Southern Exposure relies on hundreds of volunteers throughout the year to help make our work possible. We are always looking for individuals interested in getting involved with the organization and who want to become a part of the SoEx community. Volunteering at SoEx is one of many ways to be a part of the art community in the Bay Area. Volunteer activities include assisting with the education programs, gallery operations assistance, research projects, distributing SoEx flyers, helping at events, fundraising, securing in-kind donations, general administrative support and much much more.

Check out our open volunteer opportunities and sign up here.

Volunteer for the Annual Monster Drawing Rally!

Call for Volunteers for Monster Drawing Rally at Southern Exposure!!

On Saturday, October 9th, 2021, Southern Exposure will host the Monster Drawing Rally (MDR) outside our home at 3030 20th Street, and we need YOU to help make this event a success!

After a tumultuous and isolating year, we are excited to have our first in-person fundraising event since MDR 2019. Picture a street full of artists, all furiously producing artwork in one-hour shifts, people strolling up and down the block, watching the creative process and vying to buy the finished works. It's a fantastically fun and exciting event, but it requires the support of volunteers to make everything run smoothly. That's where you come in! Get involved and make an impact by supporting local artists as well as our youth program: Sign up to volunteer today.

As a small token of our thanks, all volunteers will receive free admission to the event and a free drink ticket. THANK YOU.

Join the Youth Advisory Board

The Youth Advisory Board (YAB) is a dedicated group of teen artists (ages 16-22) who work to promote and facilitate teen involvement at Southern Exposure (SoEx). In weekly meetings, YAB members organize art events, exhibitions, and projects for SoEx. YAB will have opportunities to collaborate with the artists and curators involved with the SoEx community. YAB fosters and supports an understanding of art presentation formats, the contemporary cultural landscape, art institutional systems and how power might operate within these structures. YAB supports young artists in developing their voices as leaders. We consider the students who participate to be an integral part of the community of SoEx.

Program runs October 2021–May 2022
Meetings are once a week virtually and sometimes in-person. Participants will receive a small stipend.
